When should I schedule my Prenatal visit?

We prefer for prenatal visits to be scheduled prior to 36 weeks, as many families experience deliveries beginning at this time.

A good time frame is between 20 and 32 weeks. This allows for plenty of time to practice skills.

Many mothers feel busy as their due date approaches – the frequency of OB visits increases, “nesting” urges may consume time, and some mothers take on additional responsibilities at work to prepare for a maternity leave.

We recommend booking a prenatal consult anytime after 20 weeks.

Confidence Lactation is a self-pay practice. Transparent package pricing allows families to choose the level of support that best fits their needs.

A weighed feed is a process we use to measure how much milk the baby takes at a feeding.

You may also hear it described as a measure of milk transfer from the breast.

The process:

1. Obtain a pre-feeding weight using a highly sensitive medical grade scale that is reliable to 2 gram weight changes. We weigh the baby in a diaper only.

2. Feed the baby from the breast

3. Re-weigh the baby, usually weighing between each breast. Diaper should not be changed.

The difference in weight (grams) accurately represents oral intake of breastmilk (mL)

NOTE: Many families enjoy performing spot checks at home using their personal scales. Be aware that using a non-medical grade, highly sensitive scale can serve as an estimate for intake, but will not produce accurate results.

The in-person consult offers the most robust form of support. It includes a weighed feed and hands-on assistance.

The virtual consult is ideal for families that are outside of our travel network, mothers who are working and want to meet during daytime hours, and families who need visual support or have follow-up questions.

When in doubt, choose the in-person consult. There is something magical about connecting in person.

We never expect parents to keep a spotless home.

Many families go to the hospital or birthing center unexpectedly and are unable to prepare their homes for visitors.

Please do not use precious time and energy cleaning your home above and beyond modern cleanliness standards. If you feel your baby is safe and comfortable in your environment, then we are too.

We do need a designated space to meet, usually in a family living space, with somewhere to practice breastfeeding or bottlefeeding. Having an extra chair or floor pillow available for our consultant to use is not necessary, but generally makes the consult feel more relaxed.

At Confidence Lactation, care is designed to be ongoing and responsive, not limited to a single visit.

By offering support through packages, we’re able to provide:

  • multiple touchpoints as your baby grows and feeding needs evolve
  • continued guidance between visits
  • care that adapts to your unique situation in real time

This approach allows for a more complete and supportive experience, rather than brief, one-time interactions.

This model reflects a more personalized, relationship-based approach to care, similar to what you may experience with other holistic or concierge-style providers.
